ADVISORY 07 — GTM STRATEGY

Where to play, and in what order.

Most go-to-market strategy is a slide that names a market and stops. We produce a sequenced, costed thesis — which markets, which buyers, which motion, and what has to be true for it to work.

IN BRIEF

  • Strategy Engineered builds go-to-market strategy for B2B, SaaS and listed companies entering or re-entering a market.
  • The output is a written, falsifiable thesis with an entry model and a sequence, not a positioning workshop.
  • Market selection is treated as an economic decision: segments are scored on acquisition cost, cost to serve and expansion, then disqualified in writing.
  • Typical shape is a Diagnostic followed by a Sprint. Strategy without an owner is the failure mode the firm exists to remove.

01 — THE SITUATION

Most companies do not have a strategy problem. They have a sequencing problem. The market is roughly right, the product is roughly right, and the motion is being run against four segments at once because no one was willing to say no in writing. Effort spreads, evidence never accumulates, and every quarter produces activity that cannot be compared to the last.

The second failure is quieter. A strategy exists and it is unfalsifiable — a set of ambitions with no stated conditions under which it would be wrong. It cannot be tested, so it is never revised, and it survives long after the market has moved.

02 — WHAT WE DO

Market selectionCandidate segments scored on size, acquisition cost, cost to serve, expansion and right to win. Disqualification is written down and defended.
ICP economicsThe ideal customer profile rebuilt as a P&L rather than a persona. Which accounts make money, at what volume, over what horizon.
Entry modelDirect, channel, partner-led or product-led — chosen against the buying behaviour of the segment, not the preference of the team.
Category thesisThe claim about the market a buyer must accept before accepting the company. Inherited categories are identified and replaced.
Sequence and gatesWhat runs first, what is deliberately deferred, and the evidence that must appear before the next stage is funded.
Falsification conditionsThe stated facts that would make the thesis wrong, written before execution starts.

05 — HOW WE ENGAGE

THE DIAGNOSTICTwo to three weeks. The written diagnosis of your revenue system and the sequenced recommendation. The smallest honest engagement we offer.
THE SPRINTFour to eight weeks. One defined problem — a pricing study, an entry study, a launch architecture — taken from question to decision-grade answer.
THE RETAINERQuarterly. Design and build, held to numbers agreed in advance. Reviewed — and cancellable — at every quarter boundary.
THE EMBEDDEDWe operate inside the motion: a partner and pod accountable for a revenue outcome alongside your team, until the system runs without us.

ENGAGEMENTS START AT $3,000. SCOPE IS SET AFTER THE FIRST CONVERSATION. WE DO NOT PRICE AS A PERCENTAGE OF MEDIA SPEND.

FAQ

How is this different from a strategy consultancy?
A consultancy produces analysis and leaves. We produce the thesis and then own the build and the numbers that follow from it, under the same partner.
Do you work with companies that already have a strategy?
Frequently. The common finding is not that the strategy is wrong but that it was never sequenced, costed or made falsifiable.
How long does it take?
A Diagnostic runs two to three weeks. A full strategy Sprint runs four to eight, depending on how much primary research the market requires.
Do you help with pricing?
No. Pricing sits outside our scope. Where it is genuinely load-bearing for a market decision, we treat it as a scoped research question under Research & Intelligence.
